Ice Purchase Information

There are two ways to purchase practice ice:

  1. though an Ice contract, or
  2. on an as-needed basis as available called Random Ice.
ALL ice sales MUST go through ice contracts or purchased as random ice, and CANNOT be sold from one member to another.

Ice Sessions:

Some Ice sessions may be restricted to certain levels or activities.  For example:

Ice Contracts:

An ice contract with a menu of available ice sessions will be sent to all members prior to each new contracting period.  Members may select the session(s) they wish to purchase and return the completed contract to the ice rink.

Random Ice:

A list of all ice sessions and the number of contracted skaters is posted on the Club bulletin board, and website to help members plan which sessions have potential availability for random ice.  The limit is 20 skaters per ice session.  The fee for each session varies and is listed on the session contract sheet in the Rink Book.

Random purchasing of ice allows you to purchase on a day-to-day basis, giving you additional flexibility in choosing ice on specific dates.  Random ice is sold on a first come first served basis.   Ice availability is limited to ice not already purchased by contracted skaters.  The fee for Random ice is higher than for contracted ice, but sets of Random ice coupons can also be purchased at a discount.

Procedure For Purchasing Random Ice:

  1. Check with the Rink Book for availability of session you wish to Random.
  2. Place your name in the section for Random Ice Purchase.
  3. Make payment before getting on the ice.  Please pay by check to NSC.
  4. Any questions should be directed to Anna Leik or Jane Schaber at the NSC Skating School.

If the session is full, you may still put your name on the list to purchase Random ice.  You will have to wait 10 minutes into the ice session to allow contracted skaters to show up for their session.  If at this time a contracted skater has not shown up for their session, you may buy out their spot.  If a contracted skater shows up after the 10 minute allotment, and their ice has been purchased, they will have lost their spot, and will not be able to skate the session.  No refunds will be given for late shows.  The late skater may however, put their name on the cancellation area of the ice session.

Non-Club Skaters:

Non-club skaters may purchase the Northern Blades session as random ice only 3 times in a club year.  After 3 Randoms the skater must become a club member to continue skating on the Northern Blades session.  Non-Home club or Associate member Pros cannot teach on club ice. Skaters MUST be members of US Figure Skating.
